Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Hairstyles with Step-by-Step Techniques

There are certain classic styles that withstand the test of time. The look of a beautiful hairstyle from 60 or 70 years ago is just as eye catching today as it was then, maybe even more so today. These hairstyles remind us of a time of elegance and femininity.

This book shows how to recreate so many of those hairstyles. This 2nd Edition takes hairstyles from the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s and breaks them down into simple, easy-to-follow instructions. It uses over 750 brand new photographs and illustrations and detailed directions in a 200-page full-color book.

The book begins with the basic elements and works its way back to advanced techniques. Chapter one describes the tools and products used throughout. Chapter two offers detailed instructions on creating different curls, including the pin curl, the basis for many vintage hairstyles. Chapter three breaks down the proper way to comb the curls for the effect including creating fingerwaves, Marcel waves, victory rolls, pompadours, and waves from pin curls. The fourth chapter of the book provides step-by-step start-to-finish detailed instructions for 33 different hairstyles created with different hair lengths and textures. The final 2 chapters provide ideas for hair accessories, makeup and nails to finish the look.

Not only a manual, it is also fun to read. The Finished Styles chapter of the book contains coffee table book quality images of models with their finished hairstyles. Sprinkled in introductions and throughout the book are interesting facts about the history of hairstyling, origins of styles, and information about the starlets and performers from the golden age of Hollywood who made the hairstyles popular. Classic Hollywood stars like Jean Harlow, Rita Hayworth, Veronica Lake, Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor all sparked very powerful hairstyle trends.

No matter your skill level or hair type, Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step by Step Techniques has something for everyone. If you are just looking for a hairstyle for a special occasion like a period wedding or a style to go with a vintage prom dress, Vintage Hairstyling has both up-do options and options for a longer hair look. Swing dancers looking for a style for dancing will find many options with staying power.

Thousands of women have already found relief from their vintage hairstyle dilemmas with this book. Please take a look at what readers and the press are saying in The Buzz and let us know what you think too! Go to our Get In Touch form and drop us a line.
